New Westin Winches Sport A Familiar Look Thanks to Recent Acquisition of Superwinch
I should hope by this point we don’t need to introduce Westin Automotive. With over 40 years in the industry and a stellar reputation for manufacturing strong, reliable, and eye-catching vehicle accessories, this California-based company bears a name with recognizable aftermarket cachet. And thanks to a recent savvy acquisition of another significant name in the biz (that would be Superwinch), the brand has just carved a bigger foothold for itself in the off-road space. So, in addition to some familiar offerings cropping up on the company’s website, enthusiasts can expect a number of exciting new Westin winches to join the lineup in the coming months.
A New Direction
If you’re worried the Superwinch reign is over—relax. It’s merely in the process of making an epic comeback, thanks to a new parent company with an eye for automotive adventure.
A brand long-known for its durable construction and innovative features, Superwinch also has more than four decades under its belt, manufacturing electric and hydraulic winches, accessories, and hubs for consumer and industrial applications alike. And while the company experienced some struggles in the last few years, it’s slowly pulling itself back up by the bootstraps, thanks to a little help from its new friend, Westin.
“Be assured, it is our intention to re-establish the Superwinch brand, and to rebuild valued business relationships with many of the current and former automotive and industrial Superwinch partners, and with the consumers who have made Superwinch a valued brand for decades,” the company announced on its Facebook page back in February. While Westin president, Bob West, said at the time of acquisition, “We know that both Superwinch and Westin customers will benefit from the expanded product lines, marketing, and customer service that our customers expect from us.”
We’ve talked about power-couple automotive partnerships on the blog before. (And explained why you should expect to see more of them.) And while some can seem strange, we can’t help but feel like this one is a nice fit. Two companies known for quality, durability, and style—this new venture is going to make for some exciting new offerings in the off-road market.
New Westin Winches
As we said, Superwinch has a long reputation for manufacturing products that you can (literally) rely on in a precarious situation. Cleverly-designed and constructed of high-quality stainless steel hardware, tie bars and fairlead rollers, they also sport features like weather-sealed solenoid, certified Dyneema rope, clockable motors, and even portability—depending on the model you choose. Combined with Westin’s notoriety for solid construction, quality fit and finish, and budget-friendly price point, we think it’s safe to say these new Westin winches will leave you feeling safe and confident on your off-road adventures.
Tiger Shark
“One of Superwinch’s most popular winches, the Tiger Shark series sets the bar for performance winching while not breaking the bank,” says Westin. The beloved 5-star favorite is back and better than ever, with a rated line pull from 9,500-17,500 pounds, steel or synthetic rope option, and ergonomic turn-and-pull freespool. Weather-sealed to reduce damage from rain, snow, and blowing dust, it also sports stainless-steel parts to avoid rusting.
Terra
A standout performer in powersports winching, the Terra series boasts a pulling range of 2,500 to 4,500 pounds, with synthetic or steel rope options. With wider gears for better load distribution and bigger motors to deliver the most efficient power that are clockable for the best fit. Terra winches also sport fabricated steel drums, as opposed to the brittle cast aluminum offered by competitors.
Talon
With super-fast line speed and outstanding pulling power, the Talon series is built for those who work hard and play harder. Rated line pull ranges from 9,500 to a whopping 18,000 pounds, the Talon also features a stout 2-Stage plantetary gearbox that promises amazing torque and steady, predictable operation. A clever external brake design provides 100% load hold and a chrome-plated aluminum, ergonomic freespool knob looks great and operates effortlessly. Did we mention there’s an LED-equipped remote control for late-night winching?
S Series Utility
“Redesigned from the ground up, the S series continues Superwinch’s dominance as the only trailer winch manufacturer,” says Westin of this new winch. Sporting a rated line pull of 5,500 or 7,500 pounds and offering features like a foot-operable freespool clutch, socket on top for easy access, and instant-stop motor for precision winching, this is the most innovative and powerful trailer winch available.
LT Series ATV/UTV Utility
Tried and true, promising a powerful pull season-after-season, the LT series comes in pulling capabilities of 2,000, 3,000, or 4,000 pounds. Field-tested and approved, these are a great option for outdoorsmen on a budget.
LP Series
Geared toward entry-level buyers shopping for excellent value, the LP series offers pull ratings of 8,500 or 10,000 pounds and come with a steel wire rope and a rubber handheld remote.
UT Series ATV/UTV Utility
Small but mighty, these powersports winches pack 3,000 pounds of pulling capacity, a simple pull-and-turn freespool knob and circuit-breaker protected solenoid.
Winch2Go Portable Utility
Offering everything you need in one simple package, the Winch2Go offers a pull rating of 4,000 pounds and comes with pulleys, straps, shackles, and even gloves. Use for your car, ATV, boat, or snowmobile. Versatile and portable, this all-in-one winch is also available with either steel or synthetic rope.
