Big Bird – Falcon Shock Systems For Full-Size Trucks

Recently (SEMA 2016) Teraflex made a big splash in the world of Jeep suspension. Already known for some of the best-built lift and leveling systems for the Wrangler, they launched the Falcon line of shock absorbers. Positioned step up brand with a good/better/best product tier for the JK, the Falcon “good” was better than most’s better and best. It appears as though the public agrees and the Falcon brand has sprouted wings of it’s own. Falcon Shock Absorbers seems destined to be a stand alone brand with a wingspan now covering the TJ Wrangler and full-size pickup trucks.

Falcon Shock Systems: Not Far From The Nest

Six decades of Jeep experience and hundreds of hours of testing and development reinforced one of the basic foundations of the Falcon brand. Every aspect of vehicle dynamics must be considered in designing a properly engineered suspension system. The spring rate and shock compression rate, and their relationship to each other, is paramount.

Falcon shock absorbers for the JK are not just Jeep specific. They are 2DR/4DR specific and corner specific. The driver side front shock on a 2DR JK is different than the passenger side, as well as different from the driver side of a 4DR.  They are engineered to perfectly match the spring rate of Teraflex coil springs.

This attention to detail is what makes Teraflex one of the most respected name in the Jeep suspension business. It’s also why it should be no surprise that Falcon shocks for full-size trucks share the same obsessive engineering. Enhancements found in every Falcon shock include a 2.25” diameter 6061-T6 aluminum alloy shock body, 3/4” induction hardened chrome plated shaft, hard anodized pistons, and more.

Not Just a Jeep Thing

Falcon shocks are now available for 1/2 ton trucks (Ford F-150, Silverado/Sierra 1500, RAM 1500 and Tacoma).  With the exception of the GM trucks, each has a Sport Leveling System and a Sport – Tow/Haul – Leveling System available. Tow/Haul versions of each kit offer adjustable “piggyback” rear shock absorbers. The piggyback design, found first in the JK Falcons, offers a remote reservoir for better performance. The reservoir is attached to the main shock body via a special cap that allows easier flow between the two housings without the failure risk of a hose.

Piggyback rear Falcon shocks for full-size trucks have a 3-position fast adjust knob. This knob allows the driver to select between “Comfort & Control”, “Moderate Tow/Haul” and “Heavy Tow/Haul” modes. The flexibility provides ideal ride quality, regardless of how you use your truck.

On The Level

Each Falcon shock system for full-size trucks will also give your rig that desirable level stance. Removing the factory nose-down “rake” allows for a larger tire, and just looks better.

Considering Falcon-ry

If you’ve read this article and are considering taking up Falconry, er… getting your 1/2 truck fitted with Falcon shocks, let the hunt begin!

Contact your local truck outfitter, or even the local dealership. Ask them who they use for suspension upgrades on new trucks. A qualified suspension shop will surely be able to upgrade you to Falcon quality. At that point, your limitations will be as far as your new wings will carry you. For fun, check out this glossary of Falconry terms, and try working them into daily conversation!
