This edition of Competition Corner rounds up some family-friendly festivals, heart-pounding races, and trend-setting industry shows. 33rd Annual SCORE San Felipe 250

Kicking things off with a dusty, high-adrenaline bang is the 33rd Annual SCORE San Felipe 250. Running April 3 – 7, this single-loop off-road motorsport race runs 250-miles through the Mexican desert near San Felipe on the Baja California Peninsula. Serving as season opener for the SCORE World Desert Championship, the SCORE San Felipe 250 features some of the world’s best competitors in a variety of classes, including cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles, and quads. UTV World Championship

If you like the idea of watching powersports vehicles blast through sand and dirt, but don’t have a passport to get south of the border, check out the UTV World Championship running April 4 – 7 in Laughlin, Nevada. Owned and operated by action sports filmmakers, the Martelli Brothers, this event is high-energy and high-profile. Last year’s race was live-streamed, reaching over 150,000 people and becoming the most visible UTV race on the planet. 11th Annual NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals

Watch the best racers from NMRA and NMCA face off over one action-packed weekend at the premier Atlanta Dragway, April 4 – 7. As only one of two events where you can see both groups compete, its great location pulls some of the best stars and cars, making for a truly exciting event. In addition to all the high-octane excitement, there will be a burnout contest, swap meet, and a big “Manufacturer’s Midway” where you can rub elbows with industry experts, picking their brains about the best performance mods. Charlotte Autofair

Don’t miss the largest and greatest Collector Vehicle event in the Southeast, April 4 – 7 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in beautiful Concord, North Carolina. With more than 10,000 vendor spaces offering everything from parts to supplies, there is truly something for every type of enthusiast. Thousands of hot rods, muscle cars, exotic sports cars and classic automobiles will be on display, and some will be available for sale at a collector car auction held over the weekend. 32nd Annual Southeast Street Rod Nationals

If you find yourself a little farther south over that same weekend, check out the 32nd Annual Southeast Street Rod Nationals at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. This large outdoor car show features over 1,300 street rods, customs, muscle cars, and street machines, as well as a swap meet and model car show. With fun for the whole family, this is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some of your favorite rides. Watkins Glen Opening Weekend

If you’re looking to get up close and personal by actually feeling some sticky track under the tires, don’t miss the opening weekend festivities at the Watkins Glen International in upstate New York, April 6 – 7. This event, kicking off the 63rd season, gives fans an opportunity to drive their own vehicles around one of the most historic circuits, raising money in the process for the facility’s Racing and Community Enrichment (R.A.C.E.) Washington Auto Show

As one of the nation’s top five auto shows and the largest public show in Washington D.C., this is a can’t-miss event for auto enthusiasts near the nation’s capital. Spectators will be treated to over 600 exotic, luxury, concept, and showroom cars from 35 domestic and foreign manufacturers, and will have an opportunity to experience several different types of “Ride ‘N Drives,” including an all-new electric vehicle exhibit, Camp Jeep, and the Jaguar Land Rover experience. 2019 Ultra4 Eastern Series

Not long after King of the Hammers wraps up in February, a new season of intense off-road racing launches April 12 – 13 in Pittsburg, Tennessee for the 2019 Ultra4 Eastern Series. Drivers plow through 120 different trails across the 500-acre host property, testing their skills and delighting audiences. The race is a qualifier for KOH 2020 (for the 4400 Class), so be sure to keep an eye out for any up-and-coming talent to follow! Click here for scheduling and ticket information.

New York International Auto Show

As North America’s very first automotive exhibition, the New York International Auto Show has been delighting audiences since 1900 in the city that never sleeps. This year’s event runs from April 19 – 28, and promises nearly 1,000 vehicles from the world’s automakers throughout more than four floors of displays. Hosted in the heart of Manhattan, in the historic neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, there is literally no shortage of activities to keep you entertained when not eyeing up the auto industry’s latest and greatest. Spring Carlisle

If the thought of rummaging through boxes of twisted metal makes your heart go pitter-patter, consider hitting up one of the world’s greatest automotive flea markets—the Spring Carlisle. Held at a 150-acre facility in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, this event features over 100,000 collector and classic automotive enthusiasts from across the planet. From vintage collectibles to fun memorabilia, hard-to-find parts to standard spares, there is a true overabundance of items just waiting to be picked up. SoCal Historic Sports Car Festival

Hosted by one of the oldest organizations in vintage racing, the SoCal Historic Sports Car Festival brings a unique and diverse group of vintage race cars to the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California for two full days of racing on the 21-turn, 2.8-mile circuit. Running April 26 – 28, the festival promises plenty of good food, good fun, and good people, so be sure to meet the drivers, see the cars, and rub elbows with the plenty of vendors on-site.
