Top Recovery Picks for your Rig

Today’s post features our top picks to get you out of any sticky (muddy) situation.  Winches and recovery items are essential to any well-equipped 4×4.  Here are our top picks in the segment!

Warn VR Winches

While WARN has branched out into the lighting, bumper, and accessory market in the past few years, make no mistake–WARN is a winch company.  This new VR showcases some of the newest technology and features seen in the recovery market today.  Options are plenty with the WARN VR.  Change the look and fit of your VR by easily moving the position of the control pack to accommodate numerous mounting options and spaces.  Prefer synthetic or steel rope?  No need to worry as the WARN VR offers both in all capacities.  And speaking of capacities, the VR comes in 8,000, 10,000, and 12,000 lb. offerings to fit any need or application.

What’s the best indicator of how reliable a product will be?  Just take a look at the warranty! Warn provides an industry-leading Limited Lifetime Mechanical Warranty and 7-Year Electrical Warranty on all their truck winches.  So winch with complete confidence knowing that you have the entire WARN engineering team behind you with every pull!

TrailFX Reflex Series Winches

TrailFX has expanded their winch offerings over the past few years and now showcase quite a lineup.  Already having a solid off-road winch and accessory offering, they hit the market with their first ATV/UTV winch last year. Now, the TrailFX Reflex Series nicely slots in with different features and capacities to satisfy a broader base.  The Reflex comes in synthetic or wire roped versions, controlled by either a wired or wireless remote control.

And this thing is certainly a looker!  The pictures do not do this winch justice.  If you have the chance, stop by your local TrailFX dealer and see one in person.  It has a rugged and solid appearance with a gorgeous modern housing that would look good in any Jeep, Truck, or SUV.

Rugged Ridge Nautic Winches

The Rugged Ridge Nautic Winches are ridiculously durable and have seriously impressive pulling power.  The IP67 waterproof rated solenoid, motor, and gearbox combine to make for a powerful off-road winch package that delivers reliable results in the harshest of conditions.  The winches are also CE certified for safety.  The automatic load braking system provides exceptional pull control. All Nautic winches include weather-resistant wired remote controllers with 12’ cable, a remote-mounted solenoid box with variable-position mounting brackets and the appropriate style fairlead to keep the winch line in check.

Rugged Ridge Nautic Winches

The Nautic Series winches are available in 5.5 HP/9,500 lbs, and 6.6 HP/12,500 lbs versions, in a choice of traditional steel cable or lightweight synthetic rope.

Factor 55 UltraHook

The folks at Factor 55 preach “Closed System Winching.”  Any active winch-user knows that standard hooks work better with chains rather than rope. Hooks are common weak points in winching since conventional safety latches are often crudely constructed.  Load shifts during winch pulls are a common factor in failure and breakage which can leave you stuck or even injured.

Factor 55 UltraHook

The Factor 55 UltraHook touts a shackle mount hole machined into the body, as well a redesigned hook, providing the ultimate in convenience and safety on the trail. Other features include a titanium double shear pin, fairlead protection by way of EPDM rubber pads, and a unique finger grip which helps the user properly line the hook up in the correct direction.  When not in use, the UltraHook can be stored against your fairlead, eliminating direct metal to metal connection.  No wonder they call it “The World’s Safest Winch Hook.”

Bubba Rope Gator-Jaw Shackle

Steel is stronger than rope, right?  Well, you may have to revisit that thinking when discussing recovery.  Bubba Rope’s Gator-Jaw soft shackles offer an INSANE 32,000 lb. breaking strength. That’s well ahead of comparable steel shackles.  The Plasma®rope and vinyl urethane coating combine for maximum strength and abrasion protection.  And traditional drawbacks of metal applications are eliminated with the Gator-Jaw. No need to worry about rust and the Gator-Jaw FLOATS!  No more losing shackles in water or muck! Plus the flexibility provides better conformity to difficult pulling points. With a button knot and self-tightening loop, there’s no need to worry about slippage during pulls.  A mini Gator-Jaw is also available, boasting a breaking strength of 11,000 lbs.

As an extra measure of quality control, Bubba Rope tests every shackle before being packaged and shipped.  Offered in five+ colors, including a pink Jaw for Breast Cancer Awareness month, you’ll no doubt have a soft shackle to match your rig.

AMI Demon Hooks

Available in a squared off or rounded contour, the Demon Hooks will surely turn the heads of a few mortals on the road or trail.  Mate them with the matching Hawse Fairlead and with Dante as your spotter, you’ll have a ride that is ready to tackle the Inferno. These guys start out life as a chunk of 6061-T6 Billet Aluminum and end with a durable powder coat.  The standard red, blue, black, and polished color offerings will match the look of any truck or Jeep.  Plus the Anthracite Metallic, Desert Tan, and OD Green color add a tactical military look which we love.  The 2-sided nature of the Demon hooks means you can run them with the riveted or smooth side forward. Additionally, with a 7/8 inch stainless pin and 18K lb. capacity, these aren’t just made for show.  They mount to most standard aftermarket bumpers and can also look great with AMI’s 2″ Hitch Receiver Insert.
