New Year, New You: Get Organized with DECKED Storage Options
FACT: It’s sexy to own a truck right now. There’s simply no disputing it.
No matter if it’s a necessity or not, folks from all walks of life spend time and plenty of money fitting their rigs with the shiniest, coolest-looking bells and whistles that the automotive aftermarket has to offer. No longer a workhorse for country folk and the blue-collar crowd, even your accountant has a six-inch suspension lift on his diesel. And hey, there’s nothing wrong with that.
But, you—you need that pickup for your livelihood.
Whether for work or a hardcore off-roading excursion, you need it to perform in the way that trucks were meant to perform: integrating itself seamlessly into your day and making life a little bit easier. And you need the aftermarket equipment that will make that automotive synergy occur as naturally as possible. And you need, above all, to be organized.

Which is why you should know about all the great tools boxes, storage systems, and accessories that DECKED has to offer to those who depend on their ride for more than just style points and paved mileage. So, if your New Year’s resolution involves getting a better hold on your gear and getting your work hard/play hard lifestyle in order, the DECKED team can help.
What Is DECKED?
The goal of a DECKED system is simple, yet incredibly useful: to raise the floor of the truck bed, allowing users to store tools, hardware, and other gear beneath it in two drawers, at an easy-to-access height.
DECKED boxes are completely weatherproof, with a design composed of a stainless steel “skeleton” and a “skin” made up of HDPE. (HDPE or high-density polyethylene is a chemically-inert material that can withstand not only the elements, but most solvents and chemicals, as well.)
An important characteristic of any aftermarket product, installing a DECKED system ensures you can still use your truck like an actual truck. With a 2,000-lb payload rating, DECKED boxes safely store gear while the flat surface on top maintains the potential of a traditional bed.
The plan for DECKED emerged on a diner napkin in Ketchum, Idaho, and launched in 2013 after nearly three years of research. With a mission to improve upon the homemade wooden drawer systems in the truck beds of so many hardworking people, its founders sought out world-class engineering and the finest in American manufacturing, prioritizing the production of an American-made product.
Why Do You Need DECKED?
There are plenty of reasons to get yourself a DECKED system. We can certainly name a few…
To Get Organized
“Organization isn’t just nice for peace of mind,” writes Outside Magazine. “It also helps you get out the door faster. Less rummaging means more time on the trail.”
It also means less frustration, less swearing, and less busted tools thrown in dismay. With DECKED’s fully-featured design and long list of available locks, trays, dividers, and various accessories, you can find what you need, whenever you need it.
To Increase Carrying Capacity
DECKED systems can hold A LOT of your gear, whether it’s for work, play, or safety.
Save one of the two drawers for your wet, nasty, used sporting equipment, and keep all your clean stuff in the other. Or, save one for on-the-trail recovery gear and one for your camping equipment and food. Hunting? Put your guns, ammo, and decoys in one drawer, while you save the other for ice-cold beer.

The possibilities for simplifying your already busy schedule are virtually boundless. “There’s so much clever storage, your cargo pants are going to be jealous,” jokes the company.
To Aid Your Aging Joints
With two massive, waist-height drawers that slide all the way out, DECKED allows you to easily get to those previously hard-to-reach items, without having to unload the whole truck bed or throw your back out. It’s an ergonomically-sound solution, making your day just a little bit safer.
Nobody wants to be laid up for a month because they pulled a muscle trying to reach that ratchet set, only to find out that the needed piece wasn’t in there anyway. An ounce of prevention is, indeed, worth a pound of cure. Both of those drawers hold up to 200 pounds, and roll all the way out on hard rubber wheels, so you can save the back injuries for your snow shovel.
To Capitalize on Snow Days
If you’re using your truck for work, it’s not likely that some wintry precipitation will result in you getting the day off. And if you’re into hard-nosed winter pastimes like hunting or ice fishing, wintry weather is far more likely to draw you outside than to keep you inside by the fireplace.

In addition to an arsenal of winter gear that can stand up to the elements, you’ll need a storage solution that can do the very same thing. The steel and HDPE durability of the DECKED box is just the solution you’re looking for. And as far as assembly goes, it’s pretty straightforward, if not a little time-consuming. The DECKED family recommends setting aside a half day to get it all together. (Just enough time for you to get through that backlog of podcasts.)
For Those Who Are SERIOUS About Organization
There are plenty of ways to personalize your DECKED system so that it works exactly the way you need it to. Just a few ways to make it your own:
D-Boxes are ultra-durable, gasket-sealed, weatherproof toolboxes designed to make organizing and using your DECKED system that much easier. Fit two in DECKED’s short (5’5”) drawers, and three in the standard ones (6”6”).
Crossboxes are toolboxes as weatherproof and durable as the D-Boxes, but about half the size. They use an interlocking, nesting design that fits crosswise in most DECKED systems.
Drawerganizer Cargo Bins nestle into the handle-end of your DECKED drawers and offer simple, useful storage for smaller items that like to roll around and disappear.
Drain Plugs make it that much easier to fulfill your tailgating dreams, by turning your DECKED drawers into easy-to-drain, booze-filled treasure chests.
Even better, DECKED plays nice with other aftermarket brands like Thule or Yakima (easily attached with T-track tie downs), as well as Kolpin gun racks, Weatherguard ladder racks, DeeZee toolboxes, CargoGlide sliding trays, and Kaizen foam inserts.

So, what are your 2020 goals? To work smarter and play harder!
Let your truck–and your DECKED system–handle the tough stuff. You’ve got more important things to do.
