Which BAK Industries Truck Bed Cover Is Right For You?

We know that no two people use their truck the same, and a quick glance at any of the Big Three’s current branding and marketing reflects that. Some drivers use their truck as a daily driver, others as the four-wheeled machine to get them to their favorite remote getaway spots. In some cases, it’s a workhorse that not only delivers you to the worksite, but also hauls and secures everything you need to do your job.

That’s where the need for truck bed covers comes in.

More than just a lucrative part of the aftermarket, they’re also an intelligent investment for truck owners. Better yet, while some restyling and accessorizing can really drive up a budget, adding a tonneau doesn’t have to break the bank.

If you need your truck bed to withstand the elements — and ideally maintain some resale value — it’s certainly worth considering a truck bed cover. Luckily, BAK Industries, is a heavy hitter in this market.

Covering All the Bases

With a versatile lineup of tonneau covers, parts, and accessories, BAK Industries has a variety of products to help enhance functionality and appearance. So, whether you’re hitting the trails, hauling masonry bricks, or heading to the beach, you can rest assured that both the truck bed and its precious cargo are safe and sound.

BAK Industries also gives truck owners a comprehensive set of choices, since the manufacturer carries hard-folding and hard-rolling tonneaus. Both types of covers are viable options, but choosing one over the other largely depends on you — and your truck’s — unique needs.

Hard-rolling covers allow you to roll up the cover for 100% bed access when you need it. By comparison, hard-folding tonneaus usually still take up a few inches of space near the bulkhead. BAK’s hard-folding tonneaus have struts built-in that secure the cover in place, so you don’t have to worry about them flapping back down if you want it open while driving. But, if having more bed access is crucial, then you might want to consider the hard-rolling option.

Additionally, while both styles offer security, a hard-folding cover generally will give you extra defense against theft. Once the cover is completely closed, you can lock the tailgate for a totally secure setup.

Let’s take a closer look at BAK Industries’ product lineup in both these categories.

Hard-Rolling Covers

BAK REVOLVER X4S

This hard-rolling cover boasts interlocking aluminum slats lined with heavy-duty vinyl for truly rugged performance. A set of flattened side seals ensure a slick and streamlined look that greatly complements modern truck designs.

If you need to access the truck bed’s stake pockets, the X4S is an excellent choice since it doesn’t block the pockets — even when it’s fully rolled out. There’s also a bulkhead seal to guard against rain, snow, and dirt. If you need to open the cover to haul more oversized items, the X4S includes buckle straps to secure the cover in place.

BAK Industries calls the Revolver X4S “America’s #1 Selling Hard-Rolling Cover,” and we can see why, with all this functionality built into a reasonable price point.

BAK REVOLVER X2

BAK Revolver X2 truck bed coverThe X2 also uses a bulkhead seal to guard against the elements and can hold a whopping 400 lbs. of distributed weight. Need a tonneau, but you’re also hauling an RV? The X2 is a great choice, since it’s designed to work with most fifth wheel hitches.

Easy access is the name of the game with this cover, as well. Opening it simply requires pulling the string latch located on either side of the bed. When you roll the cover shut, a patented rotational locking system automatically engages with the rail for a firm, secure fit. There’s also additional protection against water on the X2, thanks to EPDM rubber side seals.

Hard-Folding Covers

If you need a hard-folding cover, BAK Industries carries a few different options under the BAKFlip brand. There are four different versions, including: G2, F1, Fibermax, and MX4.

BAKFLIP G2

The G2 is a rugged hard-folding tonneau cover, built from aircraft-grade aluminum and boasting BAK Industries’ EPDM seals to guard against water and moisture in the truck bed. It flips up for full bed access and stays in place with the built-in struts. One note on this feature, though: if you do want to keep the cover flipped up, it’ll block part of your back window — so make sure that’s not a deal-breaker when shopping.

The G2 excels in the ease-of-use category, as well. It attaches to the truck’s bed rails with bolt-on clamps for a no-drill installation, and opens easily with a string latch system. If you need a truck bed cover that stands up to long hours in the sun, this cover is a solid choice, since the powder-coated finish helps guard against UV rays.

BAKFLIP F1

The F1 offers the same drill-free installation as the G2, but pairs it with some other impressive features — like a 400 lb. weight capacity and a drainage system that pushes water away from the truck bed. One of the biggest standouts on the F1, however, is its construction. The panels are built from aluminum with FRP coating on top. That FRP exterior not only gives the cover a sharp look, but also helps it stay cool to the touch, as well as guard against dents and scratches.

BAKFLIP FIBERMAX

Another sturdy cover featuring the same FRP topside, the Fibermax offers UV and water resistance. It also sports a handy buckle system to secure the cover when it’s open. The main differences between the F1 and the Fibermax come down to price and weight capacity. The Fibermax starts at $900, and its weight capacity tops out at 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight.

Suppose hauling capacity isn’t as much of a concern. In that case, Fibermax offers a simple solution for carrying small tools without the need for heavier-duty machinery.

BAKFLIP MX4

The MX4 shares a lot in common with the F1, like a folding cover that secures in multiple positions and EPDM rubber seals to guard against water. This hard-folding cover also boasts a clean-looking matte finish and die-cut, shock-absorbent bumpers. There are also secure prop rod clips, so you can set the cover in place securely.

One standout feature for the MX4 is the tailgate seal. This dual-action seal lets you shut the cover with the tailgate in either the open or closed position. As with the other hard covers in this list, most installation is drill-free, but drivers should check the make and model before installing. (Installing the included drain tubes may require some drilling.)

BAKFLIP Contractor Series

If you need a tonneau for a work truck, BAK Industries also carries hard-folding covers in its Contractor Series. These rugged covers come with additional features like integrated racks and increased load capacity. The Contractor Series offers accessory options for heavy-duty work trucks, too, like load stops and sliding tie-downs.

Other Accessories

BAK Industries carries a handful of compatible accessories for enhanced protection and storage to complete your truck bed setup. Aside from hardware and tie-downs, two practical add-ons include:

BAKBox 2 Utility Storage Box

This 10″ x 10″ x bed width toolbox provides lockable storage for valuable gear. Plus, it tacks on a very useful, built-in tray for smaller items like bolts, screws, or bungees. With a 200 lb. weight capacity, it’s built to hold up to the rigors of both outdoor adventures and work truck challenges.

BedRug Bedliners

The tonneau protects your truck bed from the top, so why not complete the package with liner coverage? BedRug Bedliners feature a 100% polypropylene construction, as well as an anti-skid surface that keeps cargo from shifting around during transit. Made to withstand everything from bleach to oil to battery acid, this liner is built to withstand dirty jobs. Just clean it with a hose, power washer or vacuum and your BedRug is good as new!

Remember, truck bed protection doesn’t need to be a generic investment. BAK Industries has your back with stylish and secure tonneaus that will turn as many heads as that new light bar or bumper.
