A Spotlight on LED-Integrated Exterior Accessories

Performance lighting is an exciting aftermarket accessory upgrade. Enthusiasts have the ability to totally transform the style of a truck or off-road rig with a seemingly small investment. In recent years, there has been a lot of interesting innovation across this segment, including the ongoing development of LED integration. One such aftermarket player excelling in this arena is Westin Automotive, an exterior accessories company with more than 40 years in the business.

In today’s tech-driven world, seamless user experiences can make or break a product, and that desire for on-demand access and easy operation is quickly finding its way into every part of our lives—digital or not.

Simply put: consumers want convenience. And the automotive industry understands this better than anyone. From carmakers to aftermarket manufacturers, production is shifting to keep multitasking in mind. And that new focus puts performance lighting in a new light, so to say.

As Junior Calvert of Westin Automotive says, “We make products that utilize LED lights—we need them to enhance our products.” Therefore, it simply makes sense that by manufacturing these LED lights, manufacturers can offer their customers a “complete quality package,” he says. One that passes on cost savings, while also providing style, performance, and—you guessed it—convenience.

Westin Automotive achieves this one-stop-shopping by incorporating light bars and auxiliary lights into some of its most popular exterior accessories, namely aftermarket bumpers, grille guards, and bull bars.

Automotive Lighting Industry Data
There’s hard data to back up manufacturers’ interest in LED integration. The light truck segment is booming, and there’s plenty of consumer love for rugged off-road-ready aftermarket accessories. Similarly, lighting technology advances more every day, allowing greater illumination in a smaller package. Combining the two allows manufacturers to safely diversify their product line, appeal to consumers, and pass on some savings in the process. Data: SEMA, Technavio

According to SEMA: “Pickups are the perfect storm for accessorization. They offer a great platform for both enthusiast and utility modification, with very high sales volume over a long history.”

It seems Westin would agree, as the California-based company boasts over two dozen unique bumper options, and nearly as many bull bars, grille guards, and grilles. Not to mention a robust catalog of side steps, toolboxes, racking systems, winch mounts, and winches. Engineered by and for enthusiasts, Westin products sport heavy-duty steel construction and modern design. They’re also easy-to-install and won’t break your budget.

Below is a list of new products from Westin that showcase the importance of LED integration in the truck and off-road market.

Contour LED DRL Bull Bar

Built of galvanized, e-coated and powder-coated steel, Westin’s Contour LED DRL Bull Bar provides impressive front-end protection. The unit is over 25% larger than any current bull bars on the market and uses 3.5-inch tube contoured to the truck’s front end—hence, the name. This makes for a sleek but aggressive look that nicely complements today’s truck styling.

A stand-out feature on this bull bar is the 30-inch curved LED light bar. Flush-mounted for a finished look, the light bar also features what Calvert calls “two-phase” operation.

Most bull bars accommodate a 20-inch light that can often only be used in secluded, off-road environments. However, the light bar on the Contour LED DRL Bull Bar can be run “24/7 as a daytime running light (Phase 1), adding to the look of the vehicle,” explains Calvert. “Then, when you really do need the light, you go to Phase 2 for full LED power.”

Plus, an adjustable center bar lets you direct the light beam slightly up or down as needed.

Better yet, this LED-integrated bull bar sports a simple, bolt-on installation and comes with a light mounting kit and wiring harness. Calvert says Westin prioritizes “true plug-and-play” lighting products to ensure customer satisfaction.

“The hardest part is just going through the firewall,” he says. “And to any installer, that’s pretty easy.”

Outlaw Front & Rear Off-Road Bumpers

Both Outlaw Off-Road Bumpers are built with 14-gauge steel and boast a two-inch diameter tube frame. The front bumper features integrated, bolt-on LED light mounts for up to two single or one double row 30-inch LED light bar. For further off-road prowess, customers can throw on an optional Outlaw skid plate or LED light kit with either round or square auxiliary lights.

The rear bumper also features mount points for auxiliary lighting, for those off-roaders who want a little extra back lighting. The Outlaw rear bumper sports a retractable license plate holder that hides the truck’s hitch. No hitch? No problem. Add one of Westin’s Class III/IV hitches to do the heavy lifting.

HDX LED Grille

Sporting an 11-gauge steel frame, the HDX LED Grille features a form-fitted mesh grille with laser-cut Westin logo that is sure to turn a few heads. A 16-gauge light housing makes room for one double row combo LED light bar and two flood or spot single row LED light bars. No cutting or drilling is necessary, ensuring a simple, bolt-on installation.
