Vehicle Spotlight: 2017 Subaru BRZ
The 2017 Subaru BRZ was redesigned with the motto, “For your every action, an immediate reaction.” And it’s sure to increase the heart rate of any sports car enthusiast. “The BRZ remains one of the best sports cars you can buy. It feels like the antidote to everything enthusiasts complain about when it comes to modern cars,” says well-known car blog Jalopnik.
Engine Performance
As a result, drivers can expect a zippy sports coupe rear-wheel drive experience. The 2017 Subaru BRZ offers something for everyone. Aside from seating for four and two trim levels, buyers can opt for a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Receive a boost from the 2.0L DOHC 16-valve flat-4 with aluminum block as the power plant under the hood. The heads have been placed extremely low and rearward for optimal balance. This provides drivers with increased power and performance from the get-go.
Additionally, new valves, camshafts and a cylinder block were added to the 2.0L engine. They were paired with an upgraded aluminum intake manifold and redesigned exhaust manifold to increase airflow for gains in performance. A combination of port and direct fuel injection provides drivers with 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque for leaning into those sharp turns. The new model features Dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS) Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Throttle Control (ETC).
Handling
Be prepared to command the road like a pro, as the 2017 model features a re-calibrated stability control system with a “Track” mode for increased handling. And it’s sure to make palms sweat. Subaru outfitted the new model with “updated coil springs and dampers, as well as a larger rear stabilizer bar. Reinforcements were added to the strut tower braces, transmission cross-member plate and rear wheel housings, while the stability control thresholds were raised,” said Motor Trend.
But it’s not just about the powerful handling. Because frankly, appearances matter too. The updated exterior is noticeable upon first glance starting with the front bumper. It’s showing off a widened appearance and lower positioning for better aerodynamics and stability. Styling modifications continue with an aggressive front facia, new LED headlights and taillights, as well as an impressive aluminum spoiler.
Then step right into a premium cabin experience. “Significant updates were made to better the performance and handling. And we appreciate the interior’s more upscale, modern appearance. A redesigned steering wheel, new 4.2-inch performance display integrated into the instrument cluster, premium material accents and Alcantara seat inserts combine cohesively to create an attractive cabin,” said Motor Trend.
The interior is equipped with front bucket seats that scream ultimate performance. For those wanting an added bonus, the upgraded performance package offers exclusive, wider 17×7.5-inch aluminum alloy wheels that will have drivers looking their best as they throw down 0-60 in 6.4 seconds.
Of course, the 2017 Subaru BRZ is uniquely designed with the heart of a Subaru and soul of a sports car. So, who’s ready for a test drive?
