TALK SHOP: Diesel Market Madness with MBRP

A Sub-Culture of Enthusiasts

The diesel aftermarket industry is a multi-billion dollar business comprised of enthusiasts who are born to burn rubber. Hardcore pullers, dragsters and general platform praisers are in awe of the functional specs and utility of diesels. Jesse Rohr, US Sales & Marketing Director at MBRP, discusses three distinct consumers that diesel aftermarket manufacturers serve:

Race/Pulling: “These are purpose-built machines that are found almost exclusively at the track.”
Street Performance: “Street performance trucks may occasionally see a track once or twice a year, but are almost always found only on the road. They may be modified as much as a race-only vehicle, but they have elements of streetability left in play.”
Work/Tow: “As the name would imply, these vehicles are daily drivers that might tow 50% of the time. It might be a truck with a work box on the back or a welding station. Regardless, these vehicles almost always are modified for reliability and better performance because the economics make sense.”

Rohr and team have observed a less-is-more movement within the segment that focuses on preserving the original form and function of diesel trucks. But the diesel drag-racing scene has become heavily fueled by technology, according to the team at Diesel Army®. And that trend appears to be gaining momentum, whether you love or hate it.

What’s for sure is that diesels are steadfast in maintaining a top spot. From product posturing and tradesman hauling to burnout mania at the track, these brutes remain in the winner’s circle.
