Brand Spotlight: A Wild Ride With A’PEXi Performance

You can’t corral a wild Mustang in the same way you can’t contain A’PEXi performance. Whether you prefer chaps or the driver’s seat, both guarantee one hell of a ride.

Founded in Japan in 1992, A’PEXi has evolved from a small tuning parts manufacturer to a multi-industry international powerhouse. The company’s focus is on enhanced engine performance, with a current product selection that includes intakes, engine components, exhausts, electronics, suspension, as well as other accessories.

More than the sum of its parts, A’PEXi has used the motorsports platform as a means for improved part development and a straight up proving-grounds in performance capability. “Our ability to produce next-generation racing engines and tuning cars relies on our ability to analyze and conquer today’s emissions problems by embracing the technological fight to create clean-burning technologies for everyday automotive use,” said A’PEXi.

In fact, the company’s acclaimed DPF systems are now standard on public diesel trucks in Tokyo, and their research and experience in sports tuning has allowed them to create innovative high performance catalytic converters.

Going Strong

This year marks the 20th year for A’PEXi USA and the 26th year for the A’PEXi Group of Companies. A steady flow of hard work, commitment to customer service, and feedback-fueled research has allowed the company to expand beyond automotive motorsports and into other tech-savvy business ventures, including an impressive security system that allows users to communicate with and digitally access their car from a mobile phone.

A’PEXi may have a few pokers in the fire but make no mistake, this team bleeds speed. Super Street Magazine lined up a few kind words, validating that A’PEXi should be a frontrunner for your prized ride:

Super Street Magazine 1993 RX-7

“A’PEXi is one of Japan’s premier tuning agencies and a manufacturer of exquisite components. The engine compartment is suitably breathed upon. The 13B-REW rotary engine was completely rebuilt with racing spec apex seals by A’PEXi’s chief engineer, Mr. Eric Hsu. The complex sequential twin turbo system was swapped for a more efficient A’PEXi Isamu single turbo kit, compressing air through an A’PEXi GT Spec intercooler, and an RX6 turbo.” In this build the stock 255hp was raised to 400hp.

Super Street Magazine 1992-95 Civic

“Our testing was performed on APEXi’s Dynapack dyno and an APEXi V-AFC was used in the tuning process. Test sessions prior to the development of the turbo kit returned power readings of 110.4 hp and 92.6 lbs-ft of torque in stock trim. With the kit generating its prescribed 6 psi and running through the cat with stock injectors, the test mule was once again at the mercy of the Dynapack. Power jumped to 171.4 hp and peak torque increased to 132.0 lbs-ft.” The syndicated mag also revealed that, upon further testing, they were able to reach 186.8hp and 141.7 lb-ft of torque with a killer turbo and intercooler combination.

Super Street Magazine The APEXi Drag Integra

“The APEXi Drag Integra was constructed as an answer to Stephan Papadakis’ tube-frame Civic. Its mission? To become the world’s quickest front-drive racer.” The list is long and quoting everything APEXi touched on this car would just be plain old plagiarism. Long story short: a customer-built tubular chassis and exquisite engine, as well as a twin-turbo kit—just to name a few things. Though A’PEXi didn’t exactly hit the goal, the team managed to nail a quarter mile pass of 8.84 seconds at 161 mph.
