Backcountry Brute – Smittybilt’s RECON Trailer Is Ready for Action
The outdoor lifestyle has grown exponentially in popularity in the last few years. More and more of us are heeding the “call of the wild.” The beauty of the call, is that it is up to us to decide just how wild we want to get. Somewhere between Rock My RV and Running Wild with Bear Grylls a niche exists. For the outdoor enthusiast that prefers to “rough it” and yet travel with creature comforts, there is hope. Hope, thy name is RECON.
Locked and Loaded
RECON is the Swiss Army Knife of camping and overlanding. Designed to be a go-anywhere adventure trailer, RECON has provisions for all your outdoor gear. Side cabinets make a perfect spot to fit your generator or mess kit, Each of the main doors feature locking T-handle latches, and open to a 2oo lb. capacity slider. Sliders make it so easy to load your RECON to capacity, and access all your gear once you arrive at your destination. Storage cabinets are tall enough to accommodate popular 12v Fridge/Freezers like the Smittybilt’s Artic #2789. The locking storage box at the front of the RECON is an ideal location for battery power, safely out of the elements.
To comply with trailer brake laws in all 50 states, Smitty included electric trailer brakes. An electric breakaway switch is also standard to improve safety. Each side of the trailer features dual shocks and independent trailing arm suspension. Combined with the included nearly 31″ all terrain Pro Comp tires, RECON is a very capable rig. Simply remove the fenders and raise them to accommodate up to a 37″ tire for even more clearance.
Constructed of 14-gauge powder coated galvanized steel, the fit and finish of the RECON are top-notch. So is the cool-factor. Imagine pulling into a rest area with the RECON in tow. Husbands will look at you and wonder, “what’s his story?” wishing they could trade places. Wives will consider you “slightly mysterious” and perhaps a tad dangerous, yet won’t be able to avert their gaze. Such is RECON.
And when it’s time for your mysterious woodland self to lay your head down, the RECON has support for an instant-up tent for off-the-ground slumber. Smittybilt’s Overlander #2783 tent is an ideal fit, and sleeps three (in case your rest stop friends decide to tag along). Rooftop tents(RTT) may be all the rage, but. sadly you must fold up an RTT if you want to explore in your vehicle. RECON allows you to drop the trailer, leaving it behind to hit the trails. Leveling the trailer is made super-simple by three fold away jacks.
The RECON has two 2″ receiver hitches, one in front, the other in the rear. The front allows for the use of a pintle or articulating hitch to tow the trailer, ideal for towing over rocky, uneven terrain. The rear hitch makes it a breeze to bring the bikes along using a hitch-mount bike rack.
RECON is available now, wherever Smittybilt products are sold.
