Stay Connected to Your Prized Ride With AutoMeter Gauges

What is one of the least appealing parts of modern automobiles? For me, it’s the lack of gauges.

Look, there needs to be a relationship between car and driver. As operators of such fine pieces of machinery, we should know every inch of our vehicles—especially the operating system. And when you cut out half the gauges, suddenly there’s a massive disconnect between ourselves and our automobiles.

Yes, a lot of aftermarket gauges can look clumsy and out of place, but that’s why we turn to brands like AutoMeter—tried and true, helping us take care of our cars, so they can better take care of us.

Sixty Years and Counting

AutoMeter is such an iconic brand that it needs little introduction. However, its fascinating history makes for one of my favorite stories in the industry. (We’ve actually covered this before so you can revisit the conversation here if you want more of a feel for the brand.)

In short, AutoMeter has been swinging a mighty hammer since 1957. The company began when Vern Westberg and his sons started hand casting their own gauges in the backyard. They were a small but dedicated operation, and because of their commitment to standard-defining products, they grew to be one of the most recognizable brands in the world.

There’s something so American about the company’s success story—and it’s a nice change from all the investment firm acquisitions we read about today.

Fast, Accurate, & Stylish

Now, I would be a bold-faced liar if I told you that I never owned another company’s gauge. I mean, it’s super convenient to head to the parts store and pick up a set of the cheapest units you can find just to get you by.

Cruel reality check: we all know the headaches associated with running low-quality gauges. Your readings are off, the components tend to fail, and there’s a good chance you’ll wind up with hot oil running down your legs on account of a stripped or poor fitment quality of junky lines. Let’s also not forget that they often look like the cheapest gauges on the shelf and therefore stand out like a sore thumb on your dash—ouch.

The benefit of choosing AutoMeter gauges is that you don’t have to deal with any of that nonsense. The company’s products are of the finest quality, built with eagle eye precision to seamlessly blend into any vehicle’s existing interior. Plus, they have close to 70 different gauge lines, all packed with unparalleled quality and timeless appearances.

What’s new for 2020?

So, with an established brand like this, what is new for 2020? Well, a lot actually. And the best part? Most of it is already available for purchase.

InVision Digital Dashes

One of the most noteworthy is AutoMeter’s InVision Digital Dashes, which nabbed the company a 2019 SEMA award for “Best New Interior Accessory.” It was also named the runner up for “Best Engineered New Product,” quite an accomplishment.

“The new InVision Digital Dash includes direct fit make and model specific car and truck solutions as well as a universal all-in-one dash for most vehicles allowing drivers to monitor the speedometer, tachometer, fuel level, oil pressure, water temperature and volts all in one place.” Source: AutoMeter

Yes, the InVision Digital Dash is an LCD dash but before you go writing it off, there are some key features of these units that are worth your time. First, you can configure them to run a variety of displays, selecting from 12 different gauge designs. You can even set the tach range to match your engine.

Addtionally, you can customize the unit to warn you if any issues are picked up by the sensors. Oil pressure, water temperature, and so forth can set off a selected warning if they reach poor conditions. I know Idiot Lights may not be something hot-rodders are exactly keen on, but a heads-up can be the difference between life and death of the engine.

The InVision Digital Dash is a product that makes it extremely easy for hot rodders to cram modern tech into their cars. (Let’s face it, the factory gauges may look cool, but they don’t always perform ideally.) To make the process as easy and seamless as possible, all the necessary sending units and a wiring harness are included. It’s also nice to know that dash bezels are available from AutoMeter for this unit, so for some applications they will look as good as the factory unit.

This isn’t the only factory-like mounting solution new from AutoMeter though.

Recently, the brand also introduced Ford truck pillar gauge mounts, a new racing dash, and digital two-channel gauges to the market—all of which are excellent products for their respective audiences.

That’s really what AutoMeter excels in, though—supplying the appropriate gauges to respective audiences. You can find dozens—if not hundreds—of respectable gauge companies on the market. The difference? Many others tend to hone in on a specific niche or application type, whereas AutoMeter seeks to be the go-to solution for any driver—regardless of ride choice.
