Keystone Canada’s Project K Hits the Road

An upfitted 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4×4 showcasing the endless possibilities of the automotive aftermarket—that’s what sits front and center for the current Keystone Canada Project K. As with previous Project K builds, customers earn ballots towards winning a key over five set periods based on purchases from Project K’s supporting manufacturers. At present, there are 23 manufacturers participating with Project K. After each period, one winner is drawn from all ballots earned by customers. At the 2019 Super Show, all five winners will pull a key from a hat and take turns starting the truck, until whoever starts the rig becomes the ultimate winner and gets to take home Project K!

Impressive sponsorship participation, educational training for shop owners and sales staff, and local event attendance with customers continue to be hallmarks of the program. “Project K gives manufactures the ability to take part in Project K training sessions with Keystone Canada staff, so they are able to better understand what the jobber is going through during installations and provide guidance as best as possible. It also allows for manufacturers to take part in Project K Jobber Nights, where customers are invited to an evening training session with two of Project K’s supporting partners. This provides a hands-on experience and direct, in-person access to manufacturers that, in the end, enables them to have their questions answered and answer customer questions more effectively,” said Joe Robanske, Keystone Canada Outside Sales Manager.

On the Road Again

But a single factor has made all the difference in 2018. “Project K is on the road visiting customers in all regions of Canada—from coast to coast,” continued Robanske. Better yet, the team is documenting the entire experience via its Project K Facebook page— posting where Big Red is along its route and getting customers involved in the fun. For those participating in the program, it’s helped to bridge the gaps among consumers, retailers, distributors, and manufacturers.

“We’ve seen it three times now. Once at the Keystone BIG Show. Another time when Joe [Robanske] passed through a month or so ago. He parked it out front and it received some nice attention. We also had it at a local car show that we sponsor, where the Project K full package was on display and went over really well with attendees,” said Jim Barnett of Tidy Truck in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. “In fact, one of our sales guys has a similar truck and aftermarket setup but in blue, and the Project K build was received better. Overall the program is bringing some great exposure,” he added.

A Solid Program with a Big Impact

Robanske and Barnett agree the program is making an impact and generating sales. “First of all, people just love the truck. It’s proportionally so well laid out, stylish without being too aggressive, and all the aftermarket products together complement the truck,” said Robanske. “Additionally, customers love that they have a chance to win this truck. They understand that this program levels the playing field and gives ALL customers, from single jobbers to local speed shops and dealerships alike, the opportunity to win Project K and use it as an advertising tool and shop truck for their business,” he added.

Project K has been in Western Canada since the end of April, but will be heading back east shortly for the Keystone Canada Super Show on Saturday, August 18th at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. There are plenty of customers and local events to hit before this ride becomes a shop truck for one of Keystone Canada’s customers.
