Vehicle Spotlight: The 2017 Nissan Rogue

2017 Nissan Rogue Answering the Call

Despite bleak forecasts for automobile sales in 2017, the crossover market continues to capitalize on enthusiastic consumer demand. The consensus calls for a sporty platform that provides zip, ample cargo space, and plenty of efficiency. And while there are many crossover options, one in particular is pulling ahead to lead the pack—the 2017 Nissan Rogue.

The Nissan Rogue is now a real contender against the long beloved Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4. With its restyled exterior, advanced technology, and added safety features, the Rogue has longevity and ubiquity in mind. And like the Jeep Renegade, the all-new Nissan Rogue Sport trim aims to fill a sweet spot for those who desire something slightly bigger than a sedan but smaller than a traditional SUV/CUV, and with a whole lot of urban pizzazz.

Part of the Family

Family oriented elements are at the forefront of the Rogue’s design. Safety and crash prevention technology, like the newly available Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection and Intelligent Cruise Control, help the Rogue rank high in some of the industry’s toughest tests. The vehicle received the highest rating of “Good” in all five crash test categories by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, earning it the title of 2017 Top Safety Pick+. It also received the highest rating of Superior for crash avoidance and mitigation.

And even with every safety baseline covered, the Rogue allows families some luxurious features. A motion-activated liftgate is a new addition to the exterior. There are also changes inside the Rogue, such as a redesigned front center console and a D-shaped steering wheel with a heated option.

All-Around Performance

It should be noted, however, that the Rogue provides performance as well as convenience. It produces 170-horsepower and 175-lb-ft of torque with a 2.5-liter engine. Meanwhile, the agile Rogue Sport edition has a smaller 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine generating 141 horsepower 147 lb-ft of torque. Nissan also launched a hybrid version for 2017. It comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder for 141 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque paired with a 40-hp electric motor for a total system output of 176 horsepower.

The versatility of the 2017 Nissan Rogue epitomizes what the crossover movement is all about. With this vehicle, Nissan successfully adapts to a market that includes both families and young professionals in need of reliability. And given its performance against competitors, the Rogue is set to be a household name in the foreseeable future.
